Munsell is a breezy, lightweight shawl made from five colors of silk noil lace. The five colors are marled together to create ten marl stripes.

The yarn is ITO Kinu, which comes in a wide range of colors and has a tweedy look because the fiber is dyed before the spinning, and then made into a two-ply lace. It is much like the traditional yarns of Shetland, except it is silk, not wool. When Kinu is worked doubled, it makes a sport-weight fabric ideal for warmer climates. It feels like cotton, but it is lighter weight and without the cool or damp feel that can come with cotton.

Using different yarns and palettes can dramatically change the look and the feel - think of the pattern as a recipe for play.

The working yardage is 1100 yards and the dimensions of the samples are 16 x 80 inches (41 x 203 cm).

The pattern is available in Making Marls or as a separate digital pattern.
