This is probably my favorite design so far! I bought a Japanese stitch dictionary a month ago and fell in love with this stitch pattern. After lots of swatches with different arrangements and edging I came up with this design. I knew it would be perfect for a summer cardigan. The lace pattern can seem overwhelming at first glance, but since it is a saddle shoulder you get to begin the lace in small parts before having to work it over the entire sweater. I used Sweet Paprika Messa di Voce yarn which is from a small hand dyed yarn company out of Canada. It is wonderful yarn, I highly recommend their yarn. I named Murron after the female heroine in Braveheart because I had to have a brave heart to tackle the design. The cardigan has a much happier ending though, it did not get slaughtered.

Sizes:
Finished bust: 30.25 (32.75, 36.25, 39.25, 42.25, 45.5, 48.25, 51.5, 54.25, 57.25, 60.75)“. Size 32.75 modeled with 1.25” negative ease.
Materials:
Yarn: Sweet Paprika Messa di Voce, 100% superwash merino wool; 210m (230 yds) per 50g skein; color: Cafe au Lait, 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9, 9) skeins, 803 (920, 1036, 1109, 1206, 1310, 1442, 1598, 1722, 1867, 1992) yds.
Needles: Size 2/2.5mm 24” circular needle and set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles.
Other: Stitch markers (different colors), stitch holders, spare circular needle or waste yarn, cable needle, tapestry needle, size 8mm buttons (see notes below).
Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows = 4” in Stockinette Stitch. 35-st Front Lace Panel = 3.75” wide. 69-st Back Lace Panel = 9.5” wide when blocked

Notes: This cardigan is constructed from the top down in one piece with saddle shoulders and set-in sleeves. The shoulders are shaped by short rows. There is no body shaping past the armholes; the lace panels add some natural shaping. The length of the body and sleeves are easily adjusted.

There are a lot of markers used in this pattern to make the instructions more clear; you certainly do not have to use them all. I would suggest using different colors for the different lace panels.

If you change the stitch count for any of the Stockinette sections you will need an odd number for the Rib Border to work.

You can adjust the fit of the cardigan by the way in which it is blocked. A soft block will give a more fitted fit. If it is blocked with pins to stretch the lace out it will give a looser fit. The sample was soft blocked.

The buttonhole and button bands are worked as part of the body of the cardigan. The buttonholes are the yo’s in the buttonhole band so you may use as many buttons on as you desire. I placed the buttons every 1.5” for the body and placed two in the ribbed band.
