My great-grandmother was an inveterate knitter. My mother says that any time she sat down and didn’t have anything else to do, she would pick up her knitting. My mother gave me some of the garments she’d knitted, which included one pale blue baby sock.

This pattern makes a sock similar to my great-grandmother’s baby socks, with a row of eyelets around the ankle. A cord is run through the eyelets and tied, which helps keep the sock from coming off.
