An adorable way to keep baby’s head cozy this spring! The hat pictured here is knit with a soft acrylic yarn in taupe and a fuzzy nylon/acrylic for the frosting, then sprinkled with pastel buttons.

This pattern uses a fun technique to knit the hat in the round from the top down. Once you learn to knit top down hats you can easily adopt this basic beanie pattern for any size yarn, any size needles and any size head!

Instructions are for size 6-24 months (fits like a beret at 6 months, and like a beanie at 24 months), but the pattern includes advice on substituting different yarns, knitting for different sizes and creating your own designs.

This pattern is for the adventurous beginner or intermediate knitter and uses knitting in the round on double-pointed needles.

Also available in a very cute kit if you don’t feel like searching for the right yarn and coordinating buttons.
