The Myadora Cowl is quick to make and fun to wear, perfect for adding some pizazz to a plain jacket, coat or sweater as it settles like a cozy collar. It takes just 100g of worsted weight yarn and as you use a 7mm hook it only takes a couple of hours to finish. You can adjust the fit with the a crocheted chain tie, or use a ribbon if you prefer. It is about 30 inches around the top neckline and 7 inches deep; you can make it longer if you have extra yarn.

I found this shell stitch variation in a Victorian era women’s magazine. I love the way the shells gradually increase in size and have a slow spiraling effect. The original 1861 “Toilet Mat” was a small d’oyley that would have been used under a perfume bottle or similar small item on a lady’s dressing or ‘toilet’ table in her bedroom or boudoir. The pattern to make the d’oyley as a wash cloth or paper towel saver is also available.

For the Cowls I used handspun wool yarn for the light coloured cowl, and Bernat Classic Wool Worsted for the green cowl. For both cowls I used a 7mm hook. Gauge is not critical, but for the Cowl you must make sure it is big enough to fit easily, even loosely, over the head.
