Named for the Myrhorn mountain in the region of Sogn og Fjordane in Norway, this simple design is easy enough for an advanced beginner who wants to grow their skills towards intermediate since it includes relatively basic stitch work, yet interesting enough for the experienced knitter because of the way it plays with integrating the most basic elements of stranded and lace knitting.

A unisex design, available in two sizes, both the cowl and the gaiter are worked in the round, from bottom to top. The cowl is framed with a ribbed border at the beginning and end; the gaiter has a smaller circumference and is framed on the top and bottom with a rolled edge.

The design follows a predictable pattern that can be learned easily so that you can proceed by reading your knitting. A great design both for introducing colorwork and lace as the two elements are present in their most basic form: k1 (MC), K1 (CC) 1x1 knitting in colorwork (thus requiring no work with floats) and YO, SSK in the lace sections. The entire piece is worked on the right side and, while the stitch counts shift between the sections, Sections A and C always mirror each other as do Sections B and D. Gauge swatch to make sure you are happy with the needle size/yarn pairing and to consider final outcomes on sizing. Pattern includes a section called “Grow Your Skills” with tips for reading your work and for working both the stranded and lace portions. Visit my web site for more details on this and other designs:

Gauge
Bulky yarns are sneaky! The category covers a really diverse group of yarns so you are strongly encouraged to swatch before starting. Make sure you get a fabric you like and pair your needles accordingly. Keep in mind that you will get a large FO if you get fewer stitches per inch. To measure gauge, use the K1(MC), K1(CC) stranded pattern.
