The Naniboujou Lodge in Grand Marais, Minnesota, was built in the early 20th century with a grand room that has a ceiling painted with Cree motifs. It is named for Naniboujou, the Cree god of the woods. The colors are reds, oranges, greens, blues and yellows that jump out at the viewer.

The ceiling, along with a fellow Raveler, Carriegoon, is the inspiration for this hat - a tall hat in 3 sizes: Infant, Child/Small Adult & Large Adult.

Earflaps are knit flat, then stitches cast on between the earflaps, joined and finished in the round. The earflaps are a colorful bird motif which can be knit all at once, or portions of the eyes can be duplicate-stitched after completion (much easier!)

Hat runs LARGE so measure up before casting on.

THIS HAT CAN BE KNIT WITHOUT EARFLAPS as follows:
Cast on 84 (96, 108) sts.
K1 P1 rib for 3 rounds
Begin with directions for CHART ONE (skipping earflaps completely)

This hat is a STASH BUSTER, Buy yarn for the Main color and the first couple of CC’s if needed, but use up some of those leftovers for the smaller amounts!

Materials: Note - actual color numbers are used here, but since this is a stashbuster hat, substitute what you have for smaller amounts!
