The Naniboujou Hat was inspired by the fantastic dining
room in Naniboujou Lodge and Restaurant on Minnesota’s
beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior. Just east of Grand
Marais, the lodge was built at the end of the Roaring 20s to
be a luxurious retreat club with founding member like Babe
Ruth and Jack Dempsey. When the stock market crashed in
October 1929 many of the grandiose plans crashed as well,
but the main lodge with its gorgeous dining room were
nearly finished.

This dining room is a show-stopping example of color and
artistic creation. Inspired by Cree Indian designs, painter
Antoine Gouffe combined a multitude of clear, vibrant
colors to create the modern murals on the walls and ceiling.
Despite multiple owners and some years when the building
sat vacant, the dining room has not been touched up or
repainted since.

Knit this beautiful tam in the vibrant and affordable hues
of Cascade 220 yarns. The stranded hat is knit from the
brim to the optional tassel with decreases incorporated into
the pattern. Look for the matching Toboggan Mittens, or
the finer gauge Naniboujou Tam and Mittens in the full
collection.
