Nautical Knit Shadow Pillow
This nautical themed pillow is designed to suit those new to shadow knitting. The pattern provides detailed instructions in both written and charted form thus allowing the knitter to choose their preferred format. Simple directions give the additional option of working a fabric (or knitted) back.

Requirements for 30 cm (12 in) fabric backed pillow:
Rowan Softknit Cotton,(worsted, 8ply)

(MC) 1 x 50gms, Sh 581(Seaweed)
(CC1) 1 x 50gms, Sh 570(Cream)
(CC2)1 x 50gms, Sh 582(Sunset Red)

Needles and Notions
4.0 mm (US 6) needles, or size required to obtain gauge. Straight or circular for the centre panel. One 60 cm (24 in) circular needle for border.
4 stitch markers, darning needle
Coordinating fabric 52 cm x 33 cm (201/2 x 13 in), 3 buttons, 30 cm (12 in) pillow pad, sewing needle, thread & tape measure.

Should you prefer a knitted back to your pillow:
Simple instructions are included. Yarn quantities for the back panel will depend on your choice of colour. If working to the required gauge in stripes of MC, CC1 and CC2 you will need one additional ball of MC and CC1 to complete a matching Back. However, if you choose to work the back in CC2 only, you should need only one additional ball of this shade.

Gauge
22 sts to 10 cm (4 in) measured over pattern using 4.0 mm (US 6) needles or size required to obtain gauge.

A larger pillow of 35 40 cm (14 16 in) can be achieved by substituting the recommended yarn for an aran (10ply), a larger needle of 4.5 5 mm (US7 8) and a gauge of 19 17 sts to 10 cm (4 in). Note that this will affect yardage requirement.
