My first knitting projects came from vintage books and magazines ranging from 1940 to the 1970s. Styles certainly change from decade to decade, but one thing has remained consistent: the turtleneck. As someone who is nearly always cold, I consider a turtleneck to be an essential part of a sweater collection. Newport has a classic shape—without being clingy—and a modern neckline for an updated look. Designed to be timeless, Newport is an approachable, cool-weather knit that you’ll wear for years to come.

Newport is worked flat at first until the front neck shaping is complete, then joined and worked in the round from there. The sleeves and turtleneck are worked last. The body features exaggerated ribbing and a cropped length for a modern twist.
