My contribution to The Scary Sock KAL for this year.

Inspired by Nightmare before Christmas

I have said before. I don’t watch horror films, I’m a wuss!

But I must admit this is the one “horror” film that I do watch. It is a family tradition that we curl up with after dinner drinks on Christmas Eve and watch this before wending our weary way to bed.

When I decided on this sock I was originally going to make a mock fairilse sock with Jack Skellington heads and other iconic characters, and started Googling pictures for inspiration. And then I saw THE HILL. Immediately my knitting brain started thinking of ways to knit a black hill on a black background and this is what I hope I have managed to achieve.

Toe up with a short row toe and heel. This sock has a bit of everything.
travelling sts, duplicate stitching, and some simple embroidery.

If you are really adventurous you might try adding the moon by intarsia, but I have to say that I tried. In conjunction with the travelling sts, my mind just gave up. So as they say (to paraphrase Kipling) if you can do it “ you are a cleverer knitter than me Gunga Din” - have at it!
