Nightwatch Mittens
CONSTRUCTION: Inspired by the chaska motif used in traditional Andean textiles, these fair isle mittens are decorated with 2 distinct star shapes worked in shades of a single color over a contrast color background. An afterthought thumb allows the knitter to work continuously in the round without breaking stride and can be worked in a single color to match the ribbed cuff.
SIZES: S (M, L); 7 3/4 (8 1/2, 9 1/4)“/19 (21.5, 23.5) cm finished hand circumference and 7 (8, 9)”/18 (20.5, 23) cm long (customizable) from top of cuff to tip.
Tip: for additional sizes, try adjusting your gauge slightly. For example, worked at 7.5 sts per inch, the pattern will produce a finished hand circumference of 8 1/4 (9, 9 3/4)”/21 (23, 25) cm.
YARN: Knit Picks Palette, 100% Peruvian highland wool, 231 yd/2 oz (210 m/50 g): 1 ball each in Iris Heather (CC2), Huckleberry Heather (CC1) and Cream (MC)
GAUGE: 32 sts and 40 rnds = 4”/10 cm in Charted pattern on larger needles.
NEEDLES
US 2/2.75 mm and 3/3.25 mm: DPNs or long circular needle for magic loop. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
