No. 2 Knitted Purse

This pattern is available for free.

The website shows a picture of the page of the book and, on the left side, the text that you can copy paste to a new file.

The purse is seamless and knitted in one piece. The two sides are knitted in the round. The middle part is knitted flat. It is finished by a tassel on one end and a beaded fringe on the other.

The pattern is written in an old knitting language.

  • “th o” means Yarn Over (YO)
  • “knit 2 crossed” means twisted stitches (Ktbl)

Finished size with the 1.5mm (US 000) needles: 5cm x 23cm (9” x 2”).

The pattern was originally published in The Art of knitting (1892) by Butterick Publishing Company, which is available online free of charge. The book has explanations for the abbreviations as well as a picture of the purse.
