Nordlys is the Norwegian word for the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. The Nordlys hat was inspired by the incredible green light show that rises in the arctic sky during the dark winter. The stitch pattern along the bottom is a slipped stitch rib that continues into a slipped stockinette stich pattern. The floats from the slipped stitch create a little extra thickness around the ears where you want it, and the stockinette crown gives a little more softness and slouchiness. For a bolder show, knit the hat with two colors. The monochrome hat has a subtler but still striking array of rising stitches.

Nordlys is part of the Lofoten Collection of three hats that also includes the Sea Slab Hat and Lichen It Hat.

Please note that while the Aurora stitch pattern is presented as both a chart and written instructions, one needs to follow written instructions for the brim and to reduce the crown.
