North Sea

With this rather special design I wanted to use another form of seamless knitting to create a Gansey with a difference! I have used the Fair Isle yoked sweater construction with grafted underarm sections and knitted bottom up in the round. The patterns are of particular interest and include reverse stitch diamonds and ‘heapies’ along with a Scottish Tree design. In some records the ‘heapies’ are triangles, often elongated and almost like the flag design. I played with the reverse stocking stitch diamonds and ‘heapies’ until I found that it created the look of choppy waters and reflected the look of the North Sea on a windy day.
