Worked in Icelandic yarn using an Estonian-lace style edging and a diamond pattern typical of Shetland, Northern is an elegant and understated semi-circular scarf/shawlette.

The sample took 80 grams/350 meters/400 yards of the stated yarn. I recommend you allow more yarn than this; individual gauge can vary in lace knitting requiring slightly more yarn than the sample required.

The pattern was designed with this lovely Icelandic lace-weight yarn in mind, but a fingering- or sport-weight yarn could be substituted. Would also be great in handspun.

Suitable for a knitter with some experience knitting lace. (Skills required: knitted-on cast-on; knit; purl; yarn over; ssk; k2tog; p2tog; p2tog through back loops; centered double decrease.) This design is based on stocking stitch, and the pattern is worked in rows.

Links to youtube video for knitted-on cast on, and to clear instructions for “p2tog through back loop” included.
