Scallops are worked individually on the same circular needle, joined, and the rest of the capelet is worked from the bottom up.
Except for the tassels, all beads are placed individually using the crochet hook method.
This pattern uses 5083 size 8/0 (approx 3mm) seed beads. Seed beads are typically sold by weight. You will need 160 grams of beads. I recommend getting Japanese seed beads for greater consistency of hole diameter and quality.
Weight of Beads
I weighed my finished piece and it weighs 220g or 7.7 oz. It isn’t overly heavy. It has an elegant weight, like a strand of real pearls. The weight is spread across your shoulders and arms and the tassels keep the shawl down over your arms so that the scallops act like arm slits.
If you use smaller beads
You will need to change the number of beads for the tassels, but everything else will be the same. So instead of threading 150 beads onto your yarn, thread 225. Then use 75 beads per tassel loop instead of 50. That should compensate for the smaller beads so that the tassel isn’t too short.

Gauge is not overly important, though it will affect size. Pick a yarn and needle combo that gives a pleasing result. Scallop measures 12.5”/31.8 cm wide by 6”/15.3 cm tall after blocking.

Yarn Recommendations
It is vital that you choose a yarn that will take and hold an aggressive blocking. I do not recommend that you use an alpaca yarn as the slipperiness of the alpaca combined with the weight of the beads will cause this shawl to lose it’s shape very quickly.

Skills needed:
knit, purl, knit 2 together, purl 2 together, slip slip knit, centered double decrease, knit into front and back of stitch, and placing beads using a crochet hook.

Errata
Pattern really does call for a US sz 3 needle which is a 3.25mm not a 3.75mm as stated in pattern. Update is forthcoming which should also fix the row and stitch numbers on the charts.
