This original design is based on my extensive research into the Selbu knitting tradition. Gloves, like mittens, are worked from the cuff up, incorporating a gusseted thumb set into the palm, with a rich array of folkloric design patterns on every section. Knit them in a wool or wool blend yarn for best effect. Changing the gauge will change the size, so this pattern can be used to knit gloves to fit most adult hands, depending on the yarn and needle size.
Finished Size
Adult Small. 3.75” across the palm and 9.5” from hem to fingertip
Gauge
32st/32row = 4”/10cm over STRANDED stockinette

Yarn
Fingering weight yarn of your choice. Sample uses Rauma Finullgarn (100% wool, 50 g, 175m) 1 skein each in 414 medium grey and 438 blue. I recommend wool or mostly wool.

Skills Required
Intermediate knitting. Knit, purl, K2Tog, SSK, Make 1, and especially stranded knitting, which is easier than it looks. Selbu mittens make a great “first stranded” project.
