This is Pattern #2 in the Enchanted Fall Sock Club

Late Fall in November is the perfect time for long walks through the woods. With the leaves down, you can see through the trees, and there’s a chill in the air, but not yet the uncomfortable cold you’d experience just a few days or weeks later. The serenity of nature is unmatched in how it can uplift our spirits and calm our minds.

Growing up in the Hudson Valley, New York, I loved walking through the woods behind our house, especially when the leaves had come down and would make a crunching sound as you walked over them. The best days were when we’d walk as a family, with my parents, and our adventurous cats who would brave any obstacle we’d come to and hop over it. Whether it was logs, streams, or giant random two-foot-tall boulders, they were more than happy to plod along.

These socks are designed with those unmarked trails and twisting branches in mind. There is an easy-to-memorize cable with ribbing and seed stitch, for calming the mind and uplifting your spirit. These will become the perfect pattern to work on during those November days when the weather isn’t ideal for a hike, but they’ll become your favorite pair of socks to wear under your hiking boots next time.

Gauge 8 stitches/inch on 2.25 mm (US 1) circular needles.

Sizing 1 (2,3) - which fits a foot circumference of (unstretched) 7.5 inches (8 inches, 8.5 inches) around.

Yarn This pattern would look great in semi-solid, solid, and tonal yarns.

The sample is knit from Gynx Merino Sock in Ribbit. I would recommend any 3 ply sock yarn with a tight twist.

Sample: Gynx Merino Sock 100% Merino 437 yards in Ribbit.

Materials
-US 1 (2.25) circular knitting needles (or size needed to get gauge), I recommend at least 32 inches (my preferred length). You can substitute DPNs and 9-inch circulars for circulars as well and I’ll show you how.
-100 grams of fingering-weight sock yarn.
-Stitch marker or locking stitch marker (optional)
-Ruler or measuring tape.
-Darning needle.
-Sock blockers to photograph your socks once you’re done! (optional).
-Cable needle (optional).

Notes This pattern is written for magic loop, but can easily be changed to DPNs. Use 2 needles for N1, and another 2 for N2. If you’re using 9-inch circulars, there will be notes throughout to guide you.
