While planning this design with Jewish knitters in mind, I contemplated the emotions I sought to convey.
Praying for clarity, I asked for divine guidance on expressing the depth of my feelings. As I chose the colors, I
intuitively gravitated towards dark hues gradually lightening—a revelation. This symbolic journey mirrors the
Israeli experience, marked by the somber Black 7th of October, evolving from despair to renewed optimism.
For the yarn, I opted for Silk Mohair and cashmere, embodying the tender compassion of the Jewish people.
The shawl, stable and unyielding, mirrors the resilience of the Jewish community. Dubbed “October 7th,” it
encapsulates the journey from darkness to light. The Magen David, cast in black like the tragic events of
October th, stands out—distinct yet resilient, mirroring the strength of the Israeli people. The knitting design
is deliberately uncomplicated, allowing for a therapeutic knitting experience while maintaining a connection
to Israel through the repetition of the star motif. Following each color block, a touch of black signifies the
indelible presence of the October 7th catastrophe—a poignant and enduring memory. Wearing the shawl
imparts a sense of protection, strength, and optimism, a testament to the Star of David, Jewish history, and
our collective belief in a brighter future.
