This the March 2019 mystery sock for the Sock Knitters Anonymous group. You do not have to be a member there to knit the socks-- simply download the “clues” and knit away, but it is fun to have a group to knit along with, and you have the opportunity for fame and fortune (or at least, prizes), if you do. The four clues will be released on March 1,8,15, & 22. The SKA theme for March is music and art, and these socks are (obviously, in my opinion) inspired by The Beatles song of the same name, found on the Abbey Road album.

Do please take note: These are novelty socks— they will be fun, perhaps ridiculous, but definitely not elegant nor beautiful.

Skill-level: Intermediate— this is a stranded color work sock, with some (slightly) unusual construction elements.

Yarn: Background/Main Color— 250-300 yards
Octopus Color/Contrast Color 1— 75-100 yards (depends on how long of tentacles, yes-- tentacles!, that you want)
Flower Color/Contrast Color 2—100-150 yards (choose a color that contrasts well with the main color, you’ll want a sharp contrast.

Materials: A handful of seed beads which will complement the Octopus color/Contrast Color 1 (there’s no exact number here— I think I used something like 15-20 per tentacle, so between 130-180 beads? If you want to use fewer or more, it’s not an issue)

Needles: US 1 (2.25mm) sock needles (pattern is given for both DPNs and Magic loop)— If size 1 needles work up too tightly for you when doing color work, please go up a size or two, till the fabric is comfortable for you.

Tools: 8 small (or big, it doesn’t really matter) safety pins; tape measure, scissors, & tapestry needle.

Gauge: 32 stitches and 30 rounds per 4 inches/10 cm, worked in stranded pattern.

Sizing: Small (Medium, Large, Extra-large) sizes measure approximately 9(10,11,12) inches in circumference. Leg height, ankle depth, and foot length are all adjustable to fit and preference.
