Odd Trails is a quick mosaic cowl in DK weight, designed to keep you warm on your wintery wanderings. It’s been designed as an introduction to mosaic knitting, in collaboration with Hunter Valley Wool Store.

The cowl is worked in the round, with a band of ribbing top & bottom, and a wide stockinette mosaic panel in the middle. It can be adapted to be wider or taller, and can use 2 or more colours.

The pattern includes 2 variations on the same scaly theme. Both cowls used a single full skein of Luma for the MC, with 2 mini skeins for the CC.

The cowls can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from the charts (with written notes).

Mosaic is a wonderful introduction to colourwork because only one colour is active at a time. The work is knit in stripes, and the pattern is made by slipping stitches to carry that colour up from the row below. These small mosaic scales provide a simple base for playing with patterning and exploring variables In a functional way..
