Drowning in leftover yarn from all the socks you’ve been knitting? Eyeing all the wonderful mini skein sets put out by fabulous indie dyers? Then helical stripes were made for you. This pattern is ideal for using up mini skeins or small amounts of sock yarn leftovers. They don’t have to come close to matching - make your own unique combinations!

You’ll need five colours (or more, because if you run out of one, just grab another to replace it).

For a pair of women’s size 9 socks with a 7” tall leg, you’ll need approximately 30-40 grams of one yarn for the cuffs, heels and toes, along with 10-15 grams of each of four additional colours. Bear in mind that heavier or more dense fingering weight yarns will require slightly more than thinner ones.

Sizing is easily adjustable by increasing or decreasing the number of stitches in the stockinette sections, and working a longer or shorter foot or leg. You’ll need more or less yarn according to your personal changes.
