I saw something similar to this in a catalog years ago, and kept it in my head to one day (when I was a good enough knitter to figure out how) recreate it. As I worked on it, I was sure that it no longer really resembled the original piece, whatever it was, but it began to more and more remind me of something else, of the crinkling brown leaves of Fall, and of the curls and whorls of the bark of the Ohia trees that grew around my house. And so, to me, it feels simultaneously wholesome and stylish, and very cozy.

This pattern is complicated, and it has not been tested. If you come across any issues, please let me know!
