This top was originally designed by my mom as a super sweet A-line, tunic length tee. It was originally graded for four sizes, and when she began to try to work out more sizes, she decided to ask me to help with the grading.

After a bit of debate, I decided to rework the tee, using the same elements of my mom’s design, but creating a fundamentally different top.

The original was worked bottom up, and now is worked top down. These directions include notes on how to use partial skeins to mix and match as many colors as you’d like. There are separate directions to create your choice of cropped or tunic length (and some notes on how to change it if you’d prefer somewhere in-between!). And it now comes in 18 different sizes… from 27” {68.5 cm} through 62.5” {158.5 cm} circumference.

Total yardage is given to offer the most flexibility in color and yarn choice (including using up scraps!). The samples shown have all been worked in 3 colors, but the top would look great in any number of colors! The samples were weighed, then used an average yardage of about 420yds/100g to estimate yardage. Please keep in mind that if your yarn is very different in yardage, your gauge (row gauge) may differ very slightly than mine, and call for a different yardage needed.

Ease Recommendations

This tee was designed to have negative to zero ease. If you’re uncertain of which size to go with, also check the upper arm circumference to be sure that this will be comfortable.

The white speckled to deep teal gradient version (first photo) of this top is a cropped length Size 7 (39.5” {100 cm} bust) worn on the same model; it uses Linen Stitch as the transition between the white speckled and medium teal (middle of the yoke) and Beehive Stitch as the transition between the medium teal and dark teal (roughly at the bust) to blend the colors. This is close to zero ease.

The pink to purple gradient version of this top (second photo) is a tunic length Size 5 (35.5” {90 cm} bust) worn on a 5’3” {160 cm} model who has a 40” {101.5 cm} full bust circumference; it uses Linen Stitch throughout to blend the colors. This is a -4” {-10 cm} ease or negative 10% ease.

The blue to yellow gradient version of this top (third photo) is a tunic length Size 5 (35.5” {90 cm} bust) worn on the same model; it uses Beehive Stitch throughout to blend the colors.
