Olwen is a top down crescent shawl with lace patterning inspired by my favourite Welsh landscapes, originally worked as a MKAL in May 2018.

There are three versions:

Small takes 400m/100g of 4-ply yarn (the original used our British Alpaca/Wensleydale blend) and was worked at 24 sts to 11cm on 3.75m needles. Finished size approx 130cm wide, 40cm deep.

Medium uses 600m/50g of fine lace (Lambswool Fine Lace) and was worked at 24 sts to 10cm on 3.00mm needles. Finished size approx 175cm wide, 45cm deep.

Large needs 800m/100g of standard lace (British Alpaca Silk Lace) and was worked at 24 sts to 10cm on 3.25mm needles. Finished size approx 200cm wide, 60cm deep.

The size is adjustable and there are options for beads, plus three different edgings to choose from depending on the amount of yarn you have available.

I’ve classed this design as intermediate, as most of the pattern repeat is worked over 24 sts. The pattern is charted and there are full written instructions too.
