I always make my thread patterns using Bernat’s 14 oz /1746 yard balls (400 g/1598m) balls. I came no where close to using the whole ball for any color.

I would think that if you had a giant ball of the colors you want, you will be fine. If you use normal size balls, the number of balls you need will depend on the colors you use, and the size you will be making.
i know I always prefer to buy more so I can finish a project that buy too little and have to wait and, maybe, not get the same die lot the next time.

My niece dearly loves her top so much that she had to wear it, even though it is a size to large for her this year.
