This cowl uses a crochet stitch called stockinette that gives it more of a knitted look. The Lion Brand Chunky USA is Amish Black, soft, perfectly stretchy while not too much, a pleasure to work with. The twist of the yarn strand makes for good stitch definition in this chunky type that has a lightweight feel to it.

I used one skein but for a wider or longer cowl you can buy more yarn and modify the pattern per your wishes. For a one skein piece it makes a really nice length cowl. Good for any level of crochet lover!
