ONE-TWO-THREE-FOUR-FIVE is a close-fitting beanie with an unusual rib pattern and a carefully designed crown decrease. Done in wool, or a wool/alpaca blend, it is warm and comfortable and can be reversed if desired. Different sizes are achieved by using different weights of yarn or by varying the length of the brim. Knit one for each member of the family!

This pattern is suitable for the adventurous beginner and interesting enough for the experienced knitter looking for a chic, wearable hat. You will need to know how to do the following decreases: SSK, SSP, K2tog. You also need to knit with five double-pointed needles when shaping the crown (and perhaps if doing the baby size).

Materials:
1 skein DK wool for adult/large child (Berroco Ultra Alpaca was used above)
1 skein sportweight wool for small child (Rowan Pure Wool would be nice)
1 skein fingering wool for baby (Baby Ull by Dale of Norway is lovely)
1 set of size 7/4.5mmdouble-pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge
1 size 7/4.5mm 16-inch circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge
1 darning needle

I hope that you enjoy knitting this versatile little hat…if you ever have a question or comment, please don’t hesitate to contact me, pwa.

Happy knitting!
