Opalite is a scrappy, modular pattern designed to show off your delightful little bits of yarn, whether those are mini skeins, scraps or delightful full skeins. Knit in equilateral triangles, each section is just small enough to be enjoyable, and just large enough to be satisfying.

Just like Northeasterly, Opalite is not your average scrappy blanket pattern! This pattern includes

  • A video tutorial for weaving in ends as you go, to avoid all of that pesky finishing
  • You don’t have to decide how big your project is when you begin, just start knitting!
  • There is NO SEAMING, since the columns are joined as you knit!
  • The pattern is completely customizable and modular, but, just to help you out, there are multiple diagrams for how you can construct your Opalite for fun shawls, wraps, scarves and more!

Gauge
Gauge: 28 sts and 60 rows = 4” / 10 cm in garter stitch worked flat, taken after blocking.
Gauge was achieved on a size US 3/3.25 mm needle.
Gauge is not particularly important for this pattern, but it is important for the gauge to be tight enough that the triangles do not begin to stretch out as you join in more fabric.

Yardage/Meterage Required
Each triangle, when knit to gauge, took about 10 yards/9 meters, or 2.5 grams of the recommended yarn, measuring 4”/10 cm along each side. The scarf-sized sample modeled took about 720 yards or 180 grams of the recommended yarn (90 grams of the main color).
