This cowl is another result of my continuing fascination with lace + texture. A simple knit/purl basketweave pattern, opened up with eyelets, produces a fabric that is the perfect combination of airy and cozy.

This design can be adapted to use any weight of yarn, and the pattern repeat is small enough that it’s easy to customize the finished size. For the pattern samples I wanted to see how far I could get with a single skein (about 100g) of luxury yarn in two different weights, worsted and fingering. The worsted sample is shown in Plucky Knitter Primo Worsted in a blue-purple One Hit Wonder, the fingering sample in Plucky Knitter Bello in Early Light.

For a custom version, choose a skein of your favorite yarn (or two, for a more generous size); notes on making a custom size at any gauge are included in the pattern.

Pattern instructions are provided in both charted and written form. Skills needed for this easy textured lace include the following: casting on, binding off; working in the round; knit, purl, yarn over, and central double decrease (s2kp2).
