Men’s calf-length socks in triangle ribs pattern, in fingering/4ply yarn (ignore the 3ply above), knitted top down or toe up on 4 dpns, a full and separate pattern being provided for each. Either pattern could be adapted for 2 circular needles or magic loop by an experienced knitter.

Although this was designed for a man, the two larger sizes could also fit a woman with high instep or larger leg width: choose a gorgeous colour, adjust the leg length and knit fewer rows of cuff to make it feminine. The small-medium size would fit a boy or an average woman. Both toe-up and cuff-down patterns feature a heel with heel/sole flap. An alternative German short row heel is included in the introduction.

Requirements

  • Yarn: 100g of any 4 ply sock yarn
  • Needles: 4 dpns or two circulars. Metric: 2.75mm; UK and Canadian size 12; US size 2. For a closer-fitting sock in the S-M size for woman or boy, use 2.5mm ndls (UK/Can13, US 1)
  • Stitch markers
  • Row Counter

This is a fully-written pattern, with a stitch pattern chart for each sock.
