Based on 2 classic Shetland motifs, this is a lacy interpretation of a basic garter-stitch stole that appeared in the 1908 Shetland House Catalog published by John White & Co. Edinburgh.
Optional twisted cord gathers and tassels at each narrow end are typical features of this type of stole. The 2 main panels, each consisiing of 5 repeats across in an elongated version of Van Dyke Lace (called ‘Osprey’ for its resemblance to these elegant diving water hawks) are worked first then grafted together in mirror image with the traditional Cypress edging, (featuring a short-row corner turn) added last.
