Want to be warm and thrifty this winter? Gather up a bunch of scrap worsted weight yarn that looks good together and make yourself a cowl reminiscent of those cool vintage striped wool blankets.

Worked flat in garter stitch and then grafted together, this seamless cowl has a finished size of 24.5” in circumference (slightly wider at the bottom for a nice fit around the collar), and 7.75” in width.

Vary the dimensions to suit your taste: double the length for an infinity scarf, increase the width for extra cushyness…or use up some handspun or another weight of yarn. Anything goes, really.

Use a needle that is a bit smaller than recommended for your yarn.
