Color blocks and stripes, squashy texture and clean lines, a pattern which never gets boring and all the size variations in the world. Think of things like hue and saturation here, outside of what “matches”. Play, experiment, go outside your comfort zone! It’s just yarn, it won’t bite you. This shawl is made to take seemingly disparate colors and marry them into one picot-fringed whole. (Or take a monochrome gradation and really make it pop.)

And best of all? No need to block when you’re finished. Just weave in the ends and off you go!

As of April 5, 2015, the detailed pattern and the recipe are available.

Over The Line is two patterns in one. The first is a clearly written recipe allowing you to pick and choose from what you have. The second is a fully detailed written pattern with line by line instructions from the cast-on to the bind off.

For the recipe, you will need 1 part Color A, 2 parts Color B, 3 parts Color C, and 1 Part Color D. Color D being the accent color between the sections of the shawl, and used for the picot bind off. As long as the parts for your yarn are equal, you’re good to go. You will also need a scale to weigh your skeins as you work and a needle one size larger than recommended for your chosen yarn.

For the full written pattern you will need 123y of a DK weight merino yarn in Color A, 243y of the same in Color B, 366y of the same in Color C, and 123y in Color D. You will also need size 9 needles, or needles to match gauge.

Hue and Saturation: The Purple and Orange Shawl was made using 1 Skein each of Knit Picks Swish DK in Squirrel Heather and Allspice, 2 Skeins in Marine Heather, and 3 Skeins in Indigo Heather.

Monochrome Gradation: The Grey and Red shawl was made using 1 Skein each of Knit Picks Swish DK in Dove Heather and Serrano, 2 Skeins in Marble Heather, and 3 Skeins in Cobblestone Heather.
