Yarn weight and gauge aren’t particularly important for this shawl. You can knit it in fingering, worsted, bulky.. anything that produces a fabric you want wrapped around yourself. The garter stitch and lace is very forgiving.

The original Over the Rainbow shawl was completed with two skeins of sock yarn, (80/20 sw merino and nylon, 425 yrds for 100gr).
