This warm, snug beanie was created as part of my ‘Winter Playground Duty’ collection for a very deserving teacher. It is worked from the brim to the crown, starting with ribbing, then the ever-popular owl cable motif is repeated 6 times around the circumference of the hat, and finally the crown is worked with simple decreases. The hat is knitted in chunky yarn, so works up in a matter of a few hours. It was designed for a head circumference of 57cm but is quite stretchy and will fit a wide range of noggins.

Materials
100g Moda Vera Cardellino (actual usage was approximately 55g)
6mm circular needles
7mm circular needles
1 cable needle
yarn needle for weaving in ends and sewing up
small buttons to make the owl’s eyes (optional)

Gauge
14st = 10cm in stst on 7mm

Yarn substitution
Moda Vera Cardellino gives 9wpi on a yarn gauge. Any yarn that gives the same wpi should be suitable.
