These socks are featuring a cute owl quartet around the leg using stranded colorwork. They can be adapted to any foot length. There is a leg option for either ankle or mid-calf socks. They have a textured heel flap, a wide toe and are knit cuff down. Construction instructions are written, colorwork is charted only. The leg with colorwork is worked over 68 stitches, the foot over 64 for best fit.

Skill level: easy.

Techniques: knit/purl in the round and flat, stranded colorwork, decrease, picking up stitches, short rows, grafting.

Yarn: 400 yards of fingering weight sock yarn (300 yards main color / 100 yards contrasting color).
Sample was knitted in Ofil bébé but any sock yarn will work fine, simply make sure there is enough contrast between the 2 chosen colors.

Gauge:
Size small / medium: 36 stitches x 48 rows = 4” in stockinette - size US 0 / 2 mm needles
Size medium / large: 32 stitches x 44 rows = 4” in stockinette - size US 1 / 2.25 mm needles

Tools: Size US 0 / 2 mm or US 1 / 2.25 mm set of 5 DPNs or long circular needle for magic loop (or size to get gauge); tapestry needle; scissors; 2 or 4 stitch markers.

If you knit colorwork tight you may wish to use needles 1 size larger for the colorwork part.
