This pattern includes the DK weight version of the poncho featured here and a fingering weight version. You can see more information about the fingering version here.

Fisherman sweaters evolved first to keep those out in the harsh weather warm, and second to tell the tale of the seas and the lands they husbanded. The Ozette Poncho incorporates those ideals, working the symbols of hearth, home, and sea into a poncho that will keep the wearer warm and bring them safely home from wherever they may travel.

The Ozette Poncho is worked flat, end-to-end. Pattern stitches are worked on both the right and wrong sides. The first and last 8 stitches are worked as a border in seed stitch.

This is a one-size fits most pattern. However, to modify the width of the poncho, decrease/increase the number of stitches in the seed outer and four stitch columns. To change the length, knit fewer or more repeats of the patterns.

The 12 rows of the Central Chart are repeated throughout the poncho. The charts for the three border designs are worked on the 19 stitches inside the seed stitch borders. You may work the border charts as described or choose one chart and use it throughout.

A circular needle of at least 24”/60 cm is recommended.

A heavy sport or dk weight yarn is recommended. Generally, 1100 yards DK weight yarn should be sufficient for the Ozette Poncho if worked according to size and gauge of pattern.
