The Pacific shawl is worked from the bottom corner up to the center top, forming a square, then each half is worked separately to the tip of the wingspan creating a modified triangle that drapes beautifully over the shoulders.

Only the simplest crochet stitches are used: single crochet and chains which are combined in different ways to create three different textured stitch patterns, which are fun and easy to make.

MATERIALS

  • Yarn: Malabrigo Arroyo; sport weight; 335 yards / 306 m per 100 g skein; 100% Superwash Merino Wool
  • Hook: U.S. 7 (4.5 mm)
  • Stitch marker
  • Yarn needle to weave in ends

YARDAGE

  • 3 skeins in shade Reflecting Pool (AR133)

GAUGE FOR SWATCH

  • 20 sts and 16 rows = 4″ (10 cm) worked in ribbing st patt only, after blocking

An exact gauge is not crucial for this design.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

  • Wingspan (along the curve): 67″ (170 cm)
  • Side: 50½″ (128 cm)
  • Depth: 28½″ (72 cm)

The measurements listed above are only guidelines and you can make this shawl smaller or larger by working a smaller or larger square at the beginning, making sure you end at the equivalent section/row as given in the pattern to be able to proceed on left and right wings as written. Bear in mind that in this case, your yardage requirements and finished dimensions will change.
