This poncho was inspired by my love of the Pacific Ocean shore. Lion Brand Homespun in Regency and Pearls (2 and 1 skein respectively) recreate the colors and shading of the waves hitting the beach. Homespun works up into a surprisingly warm fabric without being too heavy making this a great piece for a cool day.

The yarn in knit on large needles and a drapey, airy fabric is created. Use a size 11 circular needle to slide the piece from side to side. The pattern creates stripes without having to weave in a lot of ends later.

The model is decorated with stones and shells from the beach but you can used purchased buttons instead. Wear it with the buttons at the shoulder for a traditional look or with the buttons down the front for a shawl-like look.
