It was my grandmother who taught me to crochet. That was a long time ago. As a little girl I was impressed by her, she had a hook in her hand each time I went to visit her. Her house was filled with doilies, crocheted tablecloths and bedspreads, she used to wear crocheted collars, sweaters and shawls, and also we children profited by her art in the form of crocheted garments. My grandmother is long since gone. This is dedicated to her – for waking a passion in me.

Paean is a triangle shawl worked from the top to the bottom in a fingering sock yarn. It is an easy lacy pattern that will result in a beautiful and a bit old-fashioned shawl. You can of course use any other yarn as well, it needs not be a fingering.

The pattern is written using American crochet terms.

Difficulty level: intermediate

Yarn: Lana Grossa Meilenweit Tweed (80% wool, 20% nylon, 211m/50g; 231yds/1.76oz), 3 balls. Sample in a size of 120 x 55cm (48 x 22in) used 595m (650yds). A third of the yarn went into the border.

Hook: 3.5mm/US E

Notions: yarn needle

Gauge: 24 sttiches/14 rows in dc = 10cm/4in.

Size: can be worked to any size

Es war meine Großmutter, die mir das Häkeln beibrachte. Das ist schon lange her. Als kleines Mädchen war ich zutiefst beeindruckt, jedes Mal, wenn ich sie besuchte, hatte sie eine Häkelnadel in der Hand. In ihrem Haus gab es Häkeldeckchen, Tischtücher und Bettüberwürfe, sie trug Häkelkragen, Pullover und Tücher, und auch wir Kinder profitierten von ihrer Kunst in Form von gehäkelter Kleidung. Meine Großmutter lebt schon lange nicht mehr. Dies hier ist ihr gewidmet – dafür, dass sie eine Leidenschaft in mir geweckt hat.

Paean ist ein Dreieckstuch, das von oben nach unten in 4-fädiger Sockenwolle gearbeitet wird. Ein einfaches Lochmuster ergibt ein wunderschönes und ein bisschen altmodisches Tuch. Man kann natürlich auch andere Garne verwenden, es muss nicht unbedingt Sockenwolle sein.

Garn: Lana Grossa Meilenweit Tweed (80% Wolle, 20% Nylon, 211m/50g), 3 Knäuel. Verbrauch für das Beispiel in einer Größe von 120 x 55cm: 595m. Ein Drittel davon ging für den Rand auf.
