Versatile - Easy - Graceful

The light and versatile Palm Springs shawl is easy to knit and ideal for beginning knitters, but more experienced knitters won’t find it boring. The shawl can be made using any weight of yarn - from Palm Springs sport weight to frozen tundra super bulky.

The shawl is worn as a conventional rectangle or gently gathered by optional ribbons for a more fluid shape. The ribbons gather the shawl into two sections that hang effortlessly on the arms, so it stays in place without fussing.

The shawl was inspired by an annual family gathering in Palm Springs. The weather is almost always clear and hot, with daytime temperatures ranging from 90 - 110° F (32 – 43° C). During the day, there is absolutely no need for jackets, sweaters, sleeves… or shawls!

But in the late afternoon, the sun sinks behind the ridge of mountains that make Palm Springs weather so unique. At that point the temperatures quickly drop to 70° F (21°C) or so, and a little something to keep the shoulders comfortable is very welcome.

On our last visit, I brought my knitting along. After finishing the project I had brought, I asked my sisters-in-law to suggest the next project. The answer was unanimous – a shawl.

So, inspired by the quirky Palm Springs weather and my equally quirky family I offer this light cover up for your knitting enjoyment! Remember to bring it with you the next time you visit.
