This is the fourth shawl in my Family of Women in Lace series.

Many years ago my sister Pam and her family bought a small cottage on the shores of Lake Winnepesaukee in New Hampshire. It has since been converted into a much larger, winterized home, however I will always think of it as her cottage. It is here that Pam spends many wonderful days sitting on the deck reading, enjoying the spectacular mountain views and the company of her children, grandchildren, and other family members and friends. The fir cone and pine tree lace patterns in this shawl evoke the pines that surround the lake, and the peaks of the pine tree lace also remind me of the mountains as well as the peaked roof of the cottage itself. And of course, we can’t forget the waves of the water as represented in the shawl’s scalloped edging created with a stretchy bind-off.

This pattern is designed to be knit with any weight/gauge of yarn and any size needles to whatever measurements you desire. There are three different lace patterns in this shawl, all of which can be repeated as many times as you wish and in whatever combination you choose.

The shawl in the photo is knit with lace weight yarn and incorporates three repeats of Chart B (Fir Cone) one repeat of Chart C (Pine Tree I), and one repeat of Chart D (Pine Tree II) to create a shawlette that measures 50” (wingspan) by 20” (top center back to bottom tip). It is created using a typical triangular shawl construction, casting on 5 stitches for the top center and then working outward and downward.

The pattern instructions are charted. I may have written instructions available at some point in the future.

Please email me here on Ravelry if you have any questions about this pattern. And Happy Knitting!
