Pangolins are an amazing type of mammal and there are 8 known species living in Africa and Asia. All 8 species are threatened by extinction as both their scales, meat and skin are illegally traded. Encouragingly, there are now several organisations that are working on conserving this unique creature. Read more about pangolins and the conservation efforts from WWF, where you can also choose to donate by adopting a pangolin!

For this pattern I was inspired by Katiecooksandcrafts to do my own amigurumi pangolin pattern.
Gauge is not important for this pattern, as long as your hook size fits your yarn type. If using thicker yarn simply use a larger hook, and you will get a bigger result.
You also need:

  • Fibrefill stuffing
  • 2 eyes (approx 10mm diameter): animal (safety) eyes recommended
  • Yarn needle to finish and to sew parts together
  • Stitch marker to keep track of the rounds. I simply use a piece of yarn to slip between the stitches

Pattern pdf updated March 2018: head and body, rnd. 12 ends with “sc in last 5st” instead of “sc in last 4st”.

Please note that the scales for the pangolin are crocodile stitch. I have to the best of my ability explained this method with text and photos, but should you require more instructions I recommend Red Hearts Ultimate Beginner’s Guide.
