The shawl is roughly semi circular, with the increases between the pattern bands. It is knitted from the top down with a stocking stitch ground. The top edge is garter stitch and there is a border of 5 sts garter stitch at each front edge. The lace edging at the bottom, which is in garter stitch, is then worked sideways along the main body of the shawl. This shape means it stays on the shoulders well, and the relatively heavy edging gives it a swing.

There are ‘yarn overs’ on both odd and even numbered rows, but each pattern is straightforward. Increases in stitch numbers happen only between the openwork sections.

There are charts and line-by-line instructions for each of the pattern bands.
