Designer notes for machine knit version:

  • Finished garment weight, 3rd size, 572 g.
  • High hip-length jacket with long sleeves edged with garter stitch ridge bands and 2x1 ribbed shawl collar.
  • Back is knit from top to bottom with cabled center panel and stockinette st to edges. Fronts are knit sideways from front bands to shaped side seam so cast-on edges match back.

Designer notes for hand-knit version:

  • Jacket is worked in multiple directions, with cable panels bordered by st st at ea side.
  • Back is worked from neck (collar) to lower edge.
  • Fronts are worked side to side (both beginning at center front) with shaped sides, moving the seam toward the back (which is narrower than 1/2 of fronts).
  • Sleeves are worked from lower edge to cap.
  • Garter st ridge pattern is worked at lower edges of all pieces; it will be vertical on frons, horizontal on back and sleeves.
  • Shawl collar is worked in 2x1 rib on upper fronts and across back neck.
