Late in 2014 cables finally clicked with me, so when it was time to knit a blanket for my new nephew a cabled blanket seemed an obvious choice. I wanted to knit cables that were intricate, but easy to memorise, and Pargetry is what I came up with. My brother came up with the name when he saw me knitting one of the many test swatches and saying that the cables looked like cheap Medieval pargeting, or ornate plasterwork seen on Medieval buildings; the pattern advanced rather from those early swatches, but the name stuck.

The blanket is fully cabled, with a garter stitch border at each edge, and is knitted in one piece. The blanket pattern is written in four sizes: baby size, designed to fit on a car seat, Moses basket or in a cot, and is ideal for the first year of a baby’s life (and then for a toddler to drag round with them everywhere!); the larger sizes correspond to single, double and king sized beds. Full written instructions are given, as well as a chart for the cabled region.
