Two designs in one pattern. I designed these while on a trip to England and France this summer. The yarn is natural, non dyed Bluefaced Leicester DK by West Yorkshire Spinners, Yorkshire, England and I created the pattern while holed up at our hotel while it poured with rain in Paris.I took inspiration from some of the street styles I saw while sipping wine at a little bistro on the boulevard around the corner. I imagined this tucked into the neck of a trench coat, with a feature mock cable diamond neck buttoned front and a textured weave main pattern.
The patterns look great on both sides, so turning it over at the neck like a collar will look just as good and provide even more versatility. The yarn is just gorgeous, soft and silky and knits up like a dream, with great stitch definition.
The first 8” of the button scarf pattern forms a feature mock cable rib design – it looks and acts like cable, but you do not need cable needles! It is then anchored with 3 statement buttons. From there, it transitions into the main fabric texture – a contrasting weave pattern.
The long version features the mock cable rib at both ends with no button holes to make or buttons to add, with weave inbetween. At 60” long, it makes a stylish, warm scarf to wrap around and around or frame a coat opening line.
IDEA’s: Make either of these with just one of the stitch patterns instead of two if you prefer.
Better yet, how about making it into an infinity scarf by adding buttons to the long scarf and closing the ends that way? A little bit of je ne se quoi
