Parnassus
I have published an updated version of this pattern! If you downloaded your pattern before March 28, 2012, please re-download an updated version! The new pattern corrected errors in stitch counts for the thumb increases, and a clarification about the yarn requirement. Thanks to all who helped me with this pattern, especially birgit1501!
Note on Gauge: This pattern calls for DK or worsted weight yarn. Be sure to check your gauge!! You may need to go up a needle size or use a heavier yarn if you are a tight knitter!!
In the winter, do you ever feel like you can never warm up? Like the cold seeps into your bones and they refuse to thaw? Paired with a cup of hot coffee or tea, these fingerless mittens are the perfect solution for those cold winter nights in drafty old houses and chilly days in under-heated offices. Knit up in the softest of alpaca yarns, these are a soft, warm, cozy treat for your hands every time you slip them on. The cable is a simple 8-line motif and is easy to memorize, but produces an intricate knot design on the back of these mitts.
This pattern has instructions for one size, but the pattern can be easily adapted for larger or smaller hands: just go up or down a needle size. The pattern includes an easy-to-follow chart as well as written directions.
Yarn Ideas:
o Blue Sky Alpaca Suri Merino
o Rowan RYC Baby Alpaca DK
o Mirasol Yarns K’acha
Notions: You will need a set of 4 US size 3 DPNs, or needles to obtain gauge, scrap yarn or a stitch holder, and a darning needle to weave in ends.
Sizing: Directions are for one size, a women’s medium. Laid flat, the width across the widest part of the mitt is 4.5 inches. The length from top to bottom is 6.75 inches. The mittens easily fit a palm circumference (measured around widest part of hand including thumb) of 9.25 inches.
Gauge: 20 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
